Message from Graham

I want to thank everyone for their hard work this year as we move towards the end of term. We have more students than ever and huge investment plans.

It was wonderful to see so many people at the celebration on Wednesday evening. The organisation of the event was superb and it was great to see and hear the D-Day Darlings. The organisers have set a high bar for the next event!

Sadly, I wasn’t able to announce the progress on pay that I had wanted to. I have agreed to a 5% pay offer being put forwards whilst balancing pay, job security and investment in students.

It is higher than any other college in the region and double the national offer. I have been overwhelmed by responses of support from staff saying they think it is a fair balance.

Despite the rejection by UCU and continued delays and actions by both UCU and Unison we are continuing to try and reach agreement.

We have now offered external mediation to the unions involved and hope they will take up the offer to see if we can reach an agreement. To date we have had no indication whether they will engage. Our processes require that we try to reach an agreement with recognised unions and we are engaging in these in good faith.

Unfortunately, the issues created by the leadership of unions in responding, unless it is addressed now, will delay our ability to progress any pay award as we need to complete the processes involved in early August.

Sadly,  at this point I am pessimistic as to this happening and feel I need to be honest with you.

As we have said previously, if there is any disruption or planned disruption to enrolment caused through industrial action by Unions, this will further delay matters and potentially jeopardise any pay increase; as will any other action by Unison.

My colleagues are doing all they can. They are as frustrated by the delays and actions of the unions as anyone else.

I urge leaders of the unions to engage with the processes and work with my leadership colleagues to present me with a final agreement.

Our strength as a college is working together, and I call on everyone to unite and focus on what is important next year: our students.

Finally, my ambition is to build on our success and if we can grow more than is anticipated in October, I will review whether we can reward staff further following enrolment and additional funding from government. I know times are financially difficult.

I hope people have trust in my commitments and actions, I believe you can look at what I have done over the past years by consistently increasing pay beyond that in other colleges.

Becky will keep you updated.

Best wishes
Graham

Changes to Campus Corporate WIFI

Dear Colleague

We have undertaken changes to the college wireless networks which also include the below change.

Work on the corporate wireless network has been completed, and the corporate wireless network is now known as ‘SCG Campus’ at all college sites. No action is required from users, and the change will be automatic and seamless across devices.
